Kratom and Diabetes: Does it Really Help?

In the United States, more than 34 million suffer from diabetes, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). As many as 90 to 95 percent are type 2 diabetes which typically occurs in adults over the age of 45 but in recent years the numbers of teens and children have displayed a noticeable increase. Interestingly, the centuries-old herbal supplement kratom is offering some hope in coping with the often-life-threatening chronic health disorder. Kratom and diabetes might seem like a new concept but in Southeast Asia, many have used the ancient herb to treat a wide array of conditions.

What is Diabetes?

Many diabetics have to use insulin

Diabetes is classified as a chronic health condition that influences how your body utilizes food for energy. When you eat, your body breaks down the sugar (glucose) in the food and then releases it directly into your bloodstream. If your body pumps too much sugar into your bloodstream then your pancreas works to release insulin to create balance. The insulin also helps your bodyโ€™s cells use the sugar effectively as energy.

Diabetics either do not produce enough insulin or their body is incapable of using the insulin that they manufacture. If there is not enough insulin or your bodyโ€™s cells stop using the insulin then the blood sugar increases and can cause heart disease, kidney disease, and vision loss.

Sadly, there is no cure for diabetes You can eat healthily and try to lose weight to slow type 2 diabetes or you will be forced to take insulin injections.

Types of Diabetes

You will encounter several types of diabetes:

  • Type 1 Diabetes: With type 1 diabetes, you require daily insulin to remain alive because your body does not produce it. This form of diabetes occurs in children and becomes a lifelong condition.
  • Type 2 Diabetes: Type 2 diabetes tends to occur during middle life and is the result of your bodyโ€™sโ€™ inability to correctly produce or utilize insulin. This is the most common form of diabetes and is preventable with lifestyle changes.
  • Gestational Diabetes: During pregnancy, gestational diabetes can occur and is usually considered a risk factor for type 2 diabetes. This form of diabetes is dangerous during pregnancy, but it does go away after delivery.
  • Cystic fibrosis-related diabetes: This form of diabetes occurs because of cystic fibroids.
  • Monogenic Diabetes:ย  This form of diabetes occurs due to genetics.
  • Prediabetes: In the U.S., as many as 88 million (one in three) have what is termed โ€˜prediabetesโ€™. Sadly, in cases, they do not even realize that they are on the road to type 2 diabetes. However, with certain lifestyle changes, prediabetes is reversible according to the CDC.

Managing Kratom and Diabetes

Diabetic sufferers face a lifetime of disease management. Coping with the condition is often exhausting and frustrating. In addition, sufferers often experience bouts of pain and heightened anxiety. Your body also reacts to stress by releasing more sugar into the blood which only compounds the problem substantially. Trying to relax and find a happy medium becomes exceedingly difficult for many.

Kratom serves several purposes when dealing with diabetes. One of the best ways that you can manage diabetes is to alleviate stress so your body can better cope with its sugar levels. Kratom and diabetes are not a conventional combination, but many are reporting success. The herb appears to ease pain and lower stress levels which have a positive impact on your blood glucose levels.

Kratom and Diabetes: The Food Cravings

Food cravings are common with kratom

Diabetics often suffer endless food cravings. Many succumb to their bodies โ€™ desires which only makes the bodyโ€™s diabetic reaction more severe and dangerous. However, kratom appears to ease the food cravings so a diabetic does not feel the overwhelming need to consume an excessive amount of unpleasant food.

Constant Hunger with Diabetes

Sadly, diabetes is firmly rooted in obesity but once a person starts to develop diabetes than their food cravings substantially increase. Many people never feel satisfied and are constantly hungry. However, unhealthy eating only increases your bodyโ€™s glucose levels.

High blood glucose levels are extremely dangerous and can lead to death if left untreated. Kratom and diabetes control is not difficult. The kratom will reduce your food cravings so your blood glucose does not continue to spike. You will start to lose weight and be able to control your blood more effectively. Also, as you cut down on your food intake, the kratom will prevent your glucose level from dipping too low. Basically, the kratom creates a balance in your system.

Pain and Kratom

As mentioned, kratom is known to help some people cope with pain. Many diabetic sufferers develop what is referred to as diabetic neuropathy which is a form of nerve pain. There are four types of neuropathy pain but with diabetes, the pins and needles pain are the most common.

The sensation of pins and needles occurs because of the nerve damage caused by diabetes. The discomfort usually takes place in the hands and feet and is accompanied by bouts of weakness and numbness in the extremities. The discomfort makes it hard to sleep or even genuinely enjoy life. Thankfully, when researching kratom and diabetes, many sufferers decide to try the herb for the pain and are pleasantly surprised at the relief that they obtain.

What is Kratom?

In the United States, kratom remains relatively unknown. The herb is legal in all 50 states. You will find it being offered by online retailers, in smoke shops, dispensaries, and even some health food outlets. In the last couple of years, it has risen in popularity. However, for centuries, kratom has been common throughout much of Southeast Asia such as Indonesia, Bali, Papua New Guinea, Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam for medicinal purposes.

Locals regularly chew the leaves of the tropical tree Mitragyna speciosa. They also brew tea that they drink in the evenings or at social events. In recent years, the export of kratom to the United States has become exceedingly popular and the trees are being widely cultivated to meet the herbal supplement marketโ€™s demand.

Kratom and Stress

A diagnosis of diabetes causes a considerable amount of stress. When you ingest kratom you enter an almost euphoric state that helps you better cope with stress. It is almost like sinking into a hot bubble bath as it washes over your body. Stress causes the diabetes condition to worsen and may even lead to fatal consequences so finding relief from the almost constant fear and worry is becomes a very peaceful respite. Once your body relaxes, you can probably achieve restful and rejuvenating sleep. Many people enjoy taking kratom in the evening after an especially stressful day.

Kratom Lowers Blood Pressure

The diagnosis of diabetes and high blood pressure often go together. Sadly, if you are diagnosed with the combination of diabetes and high blood pressure then you are at extreme risk of developing other diabetic-related health problems. Kratom use appears to lower blood pressure without any dangerous dip. Instead, your hypertension becomes more manageable which might ultimately help prevent cardiovascular diseases too.

I think stopping food cravings is key if you are going to make progress with improving diabetes, so if this product can do that then it will definitely help.

Does that mean that it is not as effective on those of us who struggle with type 1?
